Program Plan
In order for The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway to reach it’s full potential a proper program plan must be implemented. Research has been conducted on possible competition within the community. These recreation programs may take away time and money away from my program. This research shows what kind of impact they will have on The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway. A survey was sent out to possible constituents, to see how important and how likely they will be to participate in this program. The results speak for themselves, as you will as you continue to read through the program plan. Goals have been made for The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway and it is obviously our main goal to meet all of our goals. As this is our first year establishing this program we have realistic and smart goals. Being part of The First Tee of Greater Chicago, it is important our program implements and value the goals already established by this great organization. They have a set a high standard of how recreational golf programs are run. It is my responsibility to make sure these standards are met; by doing our best to reach the goals they have already set. This program plan will also cover the resources involved in making this program able to be successful. This includes the staff, equipment, and estimated costs of running the entire program. All of these elements are going to be based on a timeline. Most importantly the time of when the program is offered and how long each program takes will be discussed. After each customer has come through the program, the evaluation process must be handled. As this is truly the way we can till if our goals are being met and our participants are enjoying the program. It is another way to go over the proper use of the facilities, staff and use of money and revenue. All of these elements in the program for The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway will prove to be extremely helpful and effective to making this program truly special.
In a recent Golf Digest article, the magazine ranked the city of Bloomington-Normal, Illinois in the top 5 in America for being one of the nation’s best golf cities. The city of Bloomington-Normal is a renowned golf community with three collegiate and five high school men and woman golf teams. Golf is played recreationally and competitively in this city. The BNGA (Bloomington Normal Golf Association) was created in 2001 and founded my native golfer Mike Henry. This association hosts five competitive tournaments every summer. All of these elements combine to make this golfing community a great place to host my program of helping golfers improve their golfing abilities. This also means that with so many golf courses and so many people interested in the game there are already other teaching instructors in the area. The All Seasons Learning Center is a local driving range with an impressive golf shop inside, selling all kinds of golf equipment. There are two certified teaching instructors at The All Seasons Learning Center who have great experience and draw a great deal of golfers to their learning facilities. This will have some impact on my program if the participants feel that rather spending a weekend at my teaching facility is worth the time and money, rather than paying for a less expensive golf lesson that only last 30 minutes. There is also three local PGA certified instructors located at three of the courses in the Bloomington-Normal area, who offer lessons to anyone interested in getting better. What my program offers differently than these local golf instructors is it covers all aspects of the game of golf. A weekend spent with my teaching methods and the facilities at Royal Links golf course will prove to impact a golfers game much more than a short one on one lesson on a driving range. It is my job to make sure participants know the difference between my golf lesson and the normal golf instructor. If I can accomplish this goal the competition of other instructors in Bloomington-Normal, their businesses will prove to be irrelevant.
The survey that I conducted and sent out to possible participant, points out that my program is for people looking to turn their golf games around in every aspect rather than just their golf swings. Not only do I look to attract participants in the local area but a great deal of advertising will be to draw golfers from the Chicago area to Bloomington-Normal; 130 miles away. This is a tactic that my competition does not do; they only look for participants in the local area. This will be an advantage for my program as I look to reach out to participants. The recent survey that was made was sent out to 60 random people through e-mails found in the CDGA (Chicago District Golf Association), this way I knew they were avid golfers with handicaps. The survey was made to see how likely and interested these golfers would be in participating in a golf program like my own. Here is a link to the actual survey, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDlqZHNfZFd5VVhfZEItX1J0VnpqYWc6MQ
The results speak for themselves, as this data spreadsheet is an example of 6 random surveys taken from the 60 total surveys.

More than 50 out of the 60 people said they play golf more than once a week. On a scale of one to five of how badly they wanted to get better at golf, one meaning they do not care and five meaning they care a lot, more than 60% chose the number five. Showing they have a desire to really improve their golf games and better themselves through golf, as you can see you below in the chart.
Also notice how all the participants stated they enjoyed playing golf outside the Chicago area. The survey takers either live in Chicago or somewhere else in Illinois. Meaning no matter where people lived, they enjoy playing golf outside the Chicago area. The survey takers had the options in the next question to either select any box that refers to them. These included, Do you wish to improve your handicap? Do you want to have more fun playing golf? Is golf frustrating you? Are golf lessons too short? 83% of the survey takers selected at least two or more boxes. This question really helped me to understand that many people truly want to become better and they are sick of the conventional teaching methods. The next question asked which one of these programs would you most likely to participate in? There options were either a short golf lesson, a lesson lasting a couple days, a weekend away from the city, hiking through the wilderness, or a fishing expedition. Over 91% percent said they would pick some kind of golf lesson. The final question was asked the participants what they expected to get out of a golf lesson? One of the best responses that I feel truly defines what The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway is all about was “I want to be able to reach my full potential and have more fun. I find myself becoming very frustrated with golf and it's not as fun. Conventional lessons are not helping my game get better.” The survey was extremely helpful and further proves the demand for my program. It’s time we give the people what they want.
Without goals and dreams we would be nowhere in our lives. I have set up 7 goals in which I wish for The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway to reach in first year.
· To make a profit of over 50,000 dollars after paying for facilities, staff, and other expenses in the first year.
· Have over an 80% satisfaction guarantee from participants in the first year. (Concluding this through surveys and the evaluation period)
· To have over 30 participants take part in the program from spring till the end of fall in the first year.
· Increase number of participants by 10% for the first five years.
· Increase participants golfing abilities by 2 strokes off their handicap. By measuring their handicap index before and after being in the program.
· To have half of our participants be outside of the Bloomington-Normal every year.
· Be able to expand to a larger facility within ten years.
Not only focusing on my goals is important, but also to take a look at my visions and what I want to accomplish with my participants. What a better way to do that, than to look at my partnership with the First Tee. The First Tee has nine core values and I found three to be especially similar to what I want to instill into my participants. The first is confidence, a key factor in which no matter what one chooses to do he must have confidence if he or she wants to be successful, If one can increase their confidence, then one can increase their abilities. The next is perseverance, to succeed in golf, players must continue through bad breaks and their own mistakes, while learning from past experiences. And lastly good judgment is very important in golf. It comes into play when deciding on strategy, club selection, when to play safe and when to take a chance, the type of shot players consider executing, as well as making healthy choices on and off the golf course. The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway will make sure to install these three values, confidence, perseverance, and judgment.
Without the facilities and resources of the Royal Links golf course this program could never be done. We need their golf course, driving range, clubhouse, and off the course cabin to lodge the guests. Since I teach the lessons, the only staff needed is the workers already being paid by Royal Links. They do a great job of keeping the course in great shape, maintaining a friendly environment in the clubhouse, and allow us to have a great driving range to practice at. Since Royal Links let us use the facilities and their staff helps my program I will pay them a sum of money every year. The equipment needed will simply be the participants golf clubs and balls and I will provide a few simple teaching aids.
Start up costs is going to be to be the biggest concern among the money being spent in the first year. We will have to cover advertising costs, costs of facilities, lodging, insurance, and paying myself as the instructor so I may make a living. Here is a table suggesting the costs of the first year.

With this among of spending in the first year it will not be much of a profit, but we plan to double our profits in the next three years. For us to break even at first will be like making money.
The timetable on The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway will begin in the spring of 2012. All the planning and preparation has led up to this spring starting on April 1st, 2012. Each lesson or program if you will last two and a half days. This is the perfect amount of time for me to able to transform my participants into the best golfers they can be. The program will only be offered on Friday to Sundays, as it is a way for the working man to come down over a weekend. Also the program will quit being offered in mid October as that is when the weather begins to turn for the worst. Since golf is played outdoors this program is a seasonal one. I will also be accepting those interested in lessons over holidays, because it may be their only time off work. While the participant is here, we will be staying in a cabin on the course and will be getting up at 6 a.m. every morning and we will work on golf related items until dark. The participant will realize they are getting every cent worth of what they are spending on here at The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway.
Once a participant has completed the program, I will send home with them a survey asking questions about their satisfaction with their lesson. After each year of business has come to an end in October, I will sit down with The First Tee of Greater Chicago and we will look over the business side of things. Such as, did we meet our goals financially, did we have enough participants, did the facilities meet our needs, and did the participants enjoy their time and did they get better at golf. Also, use our best opinion to see if we built confidence, perseverance, and good judgment in the participants. And finally to discuss what ways we can improve upon for next spring. All of these factors in this program plan will help to further better the The Kilborn Cure All Golf Getaway.
